The Northern Explorer train between Auckland and Wellington makes stops at both National Park and Ohakune stations, providing a fantastic way to travel to and from the central plateau region. The train operates a six day timetable, travelling southbound from Briotmart station in Auckland on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, and northbound from Wellington central train station on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
